a quick midnight hack! I reverse engineered my cheap rgb ble light strips a while ago by analyzing the bluetooth traces between my iphone with the app and the controller. recently i created a typescript wrapper for them, and this night, i just hacked together some node packages, primarily a screenshot tool, then wrote a quick low pass filter, and did some hsv colorspace trickery to up the saturation and set my lights to the primary color of my screen.

Could not post yesterday because I had FTC states, and today I was running UniHacks! But yesterday I tested the battery pack in the deepend by using it as a base of operations for controlling a monitor and powering my backpack, leaving only one cable running in and out of the bag.

Did some pretty cool soldering. My microcontroller runs at 3.3v but neopixels run at 5v and I don’t have a level shifter, so i wired a “sacrificial LED” which acts as a temporary step-up converter by dropping the power input till 3.3v is in range, then sending the powered signal to the 5v led. (the more i think about this, the more i realize that this probably doesn’t work). I got a cool rainbow thingy going and made it wifi controllable.

Progress update, worked with the microcontrollers for a bit. I managed to set up a handshake-less wireless communication protocol between two different controllers which should allow for really powerful remote controlling in the future. I also began CADing a tillable LED socket for the back of the pack.

IntelliBag | Day 1
The first day of making IntelliBag! (name due for change soon). Nearly all my parts arrived in a last minute Amazon order, which worked out perfectly. This project is intended to be a “smart backpack” with a bunch of cool new features everyday!
And today, for day 1, I’m doing a dry run of all the USB-based “wiring” and electronics.
I’m going to keep all the electronics hidden in a secret flap of the bag, with waterproof port covers that are easy to access from the outside. Plus, the extension cable will be conveniently located next to the laptop slot.
Even when it’s not in the bag, this setup is super powerful! I’m using a USB power bank that’s connected to a powered USB hub - this way, I can power any device I want and even give pass-through charging to my laptop! And the power bank itself has passthrough charging, which means that if I plug any USB-C charger into the external port, it’ll start charging every device in the bag AND store some charge in the battery itself!
But that’s not all! The power bank supports both input and output for that port, so I can get high-wattage output too! I’m so excited to see how this all turns out - it’s going to be amazing!

2/#10-days-in-public: working with Google Apps scripts for automations. I DIDNT KNOW HOW GOOD THIS WAS AND ITS FREE TOO! made a little script that steals files out of my mail and automatically classifies them into folders depending on their filename!
1/#10-days-in-public: My rocketbook arrived! I was heavily anticipating it and hope to make it a focus of this 10 day series! Today, I added a NFC chip so I can automatically open the app on my phone!
