Rendered a little animation I made in Blender for college. It’s only a 2D render for now, but I’ll eventually make a render for a planetarium. I spent way too long trying to get the seeds to behave, I really don’t want to spend more time on it 😭

give it up for day 6!!! @jeijii-U04GRS3T9J8 was struggling to understand my text description of a scene (shot 4 on this storyboard hes working on) i had in mind, highlighting a fault in the fact that my words are not always very good at describing visuals. so to solve this i threw together a scene in blender and animated a bit by hand to make this reference animation for a jet flying by and causing windows to shatter. bc i couldnt get the fisheye to behave the way i wanted it to, i animated the entire scene upside down :P ignore how bad the sound design is i just re-used sounds from a previous animation

tuning live paint filter in blender to be closer to what i want- now that I better understand the parameters, ive been able to preserve sharp edges and smaller details, while also removing a lot of noise caused by randomization of the brush color value. I don't think this is it just yet though- the light still looks pretty 3d rendered. This will come down to just placing lights better, and improving the shaders I'm using (maybe i should try to introduce blended banding/posterization?) regardless, this scene is still extremely barren. messing with textures is fun, but I need to improve the scene more. need to watch some the first episode of Mobile Suit Gundam and take notes, plus figure out more sources of reference for this particular problem. maybe some 80s SoL? Urusei Yatsura and Sailor Moon may both be valuable in this case. and Bubblegum Crisis! (been needing an excuse to watch that) #100-days oh yeah this is for my animated short project lol

spent a bunch of today remastering/remaking a bunch of backgrounds from chapter 2 of my webcomic. a short story: we made chapter 2 in 2020, having shifted from paint tool sai to medibang, and were very much still figuring out what the fuck we were doing. I was still dumb and barely understood print media, but this was around the time i decided I needed to get it. Halftoning was a concept we explored in chapter 1, but didn't use super extensively past two pages because we decided to do chapter 1 in full color (among a lot of other issues with the original chapter 1, but thats a story for another time). This time, I wanted to get it right. I tried a couple different processes, mainly on creating halftoned shaders in blender. the problem, however, was that I just wasn't good at using the EEVEE renderer, and halftone shaders don't work in cycles. I then looked for a post production solution, and found an amazing paint.NET plugin which served wonderfully. There was one issue though: backgrounds were resized. I rendered every background at a standard resolution of 3840x2160, and @jeijii-U04GRS3T9J8 would resize/crop these to fit the panels. when a halftoned monochrome image gets resized, and you use bilinear scaling, it gets really ugly. we didn't realize how bad it was until we switched to clip studio paint for chapter 3 and used it's built in halftoning feature. chapter 2 was left neglected, as we pressed forward with the rest of volume 1. UNTIL NOW! As we get ready for a print release of volume 1, we're going back and fixing/tweaking every chapter. this includes redoing chapter 1 in it's entirety, and remastering much of chapter 2!

got sprig running locally (with a lot of help from kognise) and have started working on adding a whitenoise waveform, also started process of converting the 16x16 sections of a blender render into strings which I can put into sprig thanks to The456gamer's plugin

So my coding journey about shaders :macintosh-stcicker: helped me to learn more about how 3D Pixel Art 🎨 works! Here's an example of a 3D Render scene with a shader effect that I saw on tutorial, which can be made with Blender :blender: , Unity 3D Game Engine :unity: or with code using Three.js! :javascript: Here's also an image of "A Short Hike" a very cool :cooll-dino: indie game that uses this same effect that I will be playing soon! And speaking about games, today I did another basic design while using Gamelab! :gamelab: I think I'm understanding it better! :quad_parrot: Lastly for today, I had my Biology 🦠 exam today and I'm going to be working on Hack Club's :hack-club: guide-to-web-dev repository :merge: I plan to make more commits soon and explain everyone here what is it for! 👀

Today I had my Organic Chemistry 🧪 test and tomorrow I have an English one! Also I will be downloading some Biology 🦠 presentations for my class to study, and I'm planning to somehow host them on a website to be able to share and view them online, so I have to find ways on how to do that! 💻 Today I couldn't work on my personal website, also I'll try to get back at Blender soon! the C port is coming along nicely :) :c: 🌳 🌳 🌳 it can render the same forest, but with much better fps than the Rust version because of a handful of graphics programming tricks I've picked up since then. similarly to @AakankshaRangdal-U02F16CHZA4's post, also made mostly with circles! (okay, nonagons, but still hehe) actually, on that note, I've attached a picture of the original version I made in Rust: do you prefer its circles to the nonagons? let me know by reacting with 🟢 or :stop-green: (technically an octogon, but close enough) repo here: :githubparrot: github.com/cedric-h/rpgc if anyone has a second and would like to try to build and test the native executable on windows, shoot me a DM. I suspect I might have some depth sorting issues on DirectX but want to make sure. 🚧 :blender: I've also attached a picture of what the map looks like in Blender, as well as a tiny glimpse of the script I wrote to export it. if you've played the Rust version then maybe you can guess what each line, diamond, square and circle means 😁

as I port a game I wrote a while ago in Rust to C to try and see how much smaller I can get the WASM bundle size, I've found that what has the biggest impact is the "culture" of the languages. for example, the maps in the game I made are laid out in blender, and then exported to JSON with a custom python script I wrote using blender's API. it's easy to add a Rust dependency to parse the JSON for you, but that bites you in the ass later; serde can inflate your compile times AND your WASM bundle size. in C, however, package management looks different; there are single header libraries that are pretty easy to include, but using libraries isn't very C-like, and unlike Rust, C has a stable ABI. that means that if I change my python script to dump a bunch of floats into the file as binary, I can fread those directly into a bunch of C structs. (I do have to handle endianness for integers, though) in Rust, even if I used #[repr(C)] to force a stable ABI for those structs, I'd still have to jump through a bunch more hoops (unsafe) or pull in a dependency like bincode (which would in turn pull in serde ...). anyway, so I quickly wrote a python metaprogram to generate a C header that can fread (or just memcpy) in all of the binary data into the fields in the game map object that the first python script pulls out of blender
