Yesterday I helped run the computer science table at our school district's middle school academy fair! talking hundreds of middle schoolers was very taxing, but it actually went great, we had a crowd around our table the entire time!
I obviously advertised Hack Club a ton even though I was low on posters & flyers-- people loved the Sprig, the LED matrix (upcoming ysws 👀), the stickers, and most of all, the game! I projected my #C07MUFXNG82| pinball game onto the ceiling to draw people over & gave candy to people who could score 1000! I wanted to buy a gong with school budget that we could hit every time someone beat the high score, but even though it (shockingly) got approved it didn't arrive in time.
Definitely gonna recreate this setup in the future!
Gonna try to start using scrapbook again! Today I spent a few hours making a cool startup animation for my Retrospect (MS-DOS) game!
(DOS color palettes are hard!)
Forgot to post this yesterday, but my team won first place at CrabHacks 2024! Our prize was avocados :)
We made an app that teachers can use to scan in multiple choice assignments in any format, and through the magic of AI the app automatically transcribes the answers + checks them against an answer key!

today I made a gallery for :counterspell-portal:Counterspell Portal! still working on getting people to upload photos from their events but i'm happy with the implementation nonetheless :)

Made some music for my Halloween Sprig game with @Ruadhan ! It's my first time making something like this and it definitely shows, but given the considerable limitations of the sprig engine I think it turned out decent. Finished game shipping tmrw :sprig-eyes:doodled a new pfp!
made some new art for my sprig game!
github.com/gusruben/fortune-phone is fully functional! not #C0M8PUPU6|ping it yet because I want to add support for twilio, and maybe a few more animations or easter eggs, but now it's completely ready to be used at events like club fairs!
also, I need a better name for this project--if you can think of anything please let me know!
finished all the phone stuff with my fortune phone project! for now... (twilio support eventually maybe)
trying to keep up my streak :)
github.com/gusruben/fortune-phone (readme is finished now too, take a look!)
Made more progress on the fortune phone site! polished the UI a little & got started on the telnyx (twilio alternative) integration
This morning I felt bad about skimping out on low skies & having a weak GitHub graph, so I made the plan to make a project every day for the next week. This evening, I realized that this is possibly the worst week I could have picked in at least the surrounding 3 months. I still managed to make some good progress on a fun little idea, so here it is:
I was inspired by Club Fair Attention Monopoly to make Fortune Phone (better name pending): A little website for club fairs, where when you text the phone number on screen, the last four digits of your phone number appear along with an ominous fortune generated by AI. So far, I've written pretty much all of the UI, but I've been staring at the screen so long I can't tell if it looks good or not. I genuinely think I spent the most time just working on the 'crystal ball'.
anyway, yap over, here's day #1 of 'work on literally anything' for a week straight. anyone else is welcome to join me
made another screen for my 'fan redesign' of hackatime-- this time it was the leaderboard page. it still needs some work (there's a big issue here, see if you can spot it lol), but it's a pretty good start for now
redesigned the dashboard for hackatime, might make it into a userscript later :)
Made a ton of progress on Promptly, my desktop app for controlling AI agents (with access to a system) locally: github.com/gusruben/promptly (readme is a WIP & releases are coming soon)
